How to use visual search to find creators by aesthetic

Written by Donna

You know the exact vibe you want but can't put it into words? Visual search in Discover lets you upload an image and instantly find creators whose content matches that aesthetic. No prompts, no guessing - just show Modash what you're looking for and let it do the work.

How visual search works

Visual search is built into AI search in Discover. Instead of describing what you want in words, you upload an image and Modash scans millions of creator profiles to find content that matches the visual style, composition, and feel of your example.

This is perfect when you:

  • Have a mood board or reference image for a campaign

  • Spotted a competitor's creator content and want to find similar creators

  • Know exactly what the content should look like but struggle to describe it

  • Want to find creators with a specific aesthetic across Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube

Upload an image to search

  1. Go to Discover and open AI search.

  2. Click the image upload icon in the search bar.

  3. Upload a screenshot, photo, or any image that represents the content style you're looking for.

  4. Modash instantly returns creators whose content matches your image's visual style.

The image can be anything - a screenshot from Instagram, a photo from a mood board, a creator's post you admire, or even a product shot showing the setting you want.

💡 Pro tip - Save a screenshot of a top-performing creator's post and upload it. You'll find dozens of creators producing content with the same lighting, composition, and feel in seconds.

Highlight specific parts of images

Want to get even more precise? You can highlight specific areas of the images in your search results to tell Modash exactly what to focus on.

For example, if you find a photo of a creator in a coffee shop but you're most interested in the cozy cafe setting rather than the person, highlight just the background. Modash will focus its search on that specific visual element.

This is incredibly powerful for narrowing down results when your reference image has multiple visual elements and you only care about one.

To use this feature, simply click the magnifying glass on any image in search results, highlight your focus area and click Add to search.

Refine with creator content from your results

See a creator in your results whose content is spot on? Add their content back into your visual search to find even more creators with that same style.

This creates a feedback loop that gets sharper with each step:

  1. Upload your initial reference image.

  2. Browse the results and find a creator whose content nails the look.

  3. Add that creator's content as an additional visual reference.

  4. Get a new set of results that are even closer to your ideal aesthetic.

It's like telling Modash "more like this" - and it delivers.

Combine visual search with text prompts

Visual search and text prompts work together. Upload an image and add a written description to get the best of both worlds.

For example:

  • Upload a photo of a creator doing a skincare routine, then add "morning routine with natural lighting"

  • Upload a product flat lay, then type "lifestyle creator, minimalist aesthetic"

  • Upload an outdoor adventure shot, then add "hiking content in the Pacific Northwest"

The AI combines the visual style from your image with the context from your text to deliver highly targeted results.

Layer on filters for precision

Once visual search gives you the right aesthetic, add filters to narrow things down:

  • Follower count - find creators in your ideal size range

  • Location - target specific markets or regions

  • Engagement rate - make sure the audience is actually engaged

  • Platform - focus on Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube

  • Activity - filter by posting frequency to find consistently active creators

  • Growth - spot rising creators whose follower count is trending up

Your filters appear as chips at the top of your results, so you can adjust or remove them with a single click.

Save and organize your finds

Found creators that match your vision? Save them directly from the results:

  • Click the save icon on any creator card to add them to your most recent list

  • Use the save dropdown to pick a different list or create a new one

  • Bulk save up to 500 creators at once when you've found a goldmine of matching profiles

Tips for getting the best visual search results

  • Use clear, high-quality images. The sharper and more distinct the visual style, the better the results.

  • Focus on one aesthetic per search. Searching for "cozy home decor" and "high-energy fitness" in the same image won't give you focused results. Run separate searches instead.

  • Try different reference images. If your first upload doesn't return quite what you expected, try another image that captures the vibe from a different angle.

  • Combine with text for context. An image shows Modash the look. A text prompt tells it the feel. Together they're unstoppable.

FAQs

  • What image formats can I upload?

You can upload common image formats like PNG, JPG, and screenshots. Use clear, well-lit images for the best results.

  • Does visual search cost credits?

Yes. Visual search uses the same credit structure as AI search - 0.25 search credits per query.

  • What platforms does visual search work with?

Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Modash searches across all three to find creators whose content matches your image.

  • Can I use visual search together with text search?

Absolutely. Upload an image and type a description to combine visual matching with natural language context. This is often the most effective way to search.

  • Why aren't my visual search results matching my image?

Try using a clearer image with a more distinct visual style. Heavily edited, blurry, or very generic images may return less relevant results. You can also highlight specific parts of the image to focus the search on what matters most.

  • Can I search within my saved lists using visual search?

Yes. Turn on the Only search within lists toggle to search only within creators you've already saved. This is great when you have a large pool and need to find specific aesthetics within it.

  • Is visual search the same as AI search?

Visual search is a feature within AI search. AI search accepts both text prompts and image uploads. Visual search is specifically the image-based part of that experience.
