Understanding campaign analytics

Written by Donna

Your campaign dashboard in Track gives you a complete, real-time view of how your creators and content are performing - every view, every click, every sale, all updating automatically as Modash collects content.

Campaign overview metrics

Your campaign dashboard shows key metrics at a glance:

Content:

  • All content - content shared by creators that doesn't match specified mentions, tags, hashtags, or keywords. Doesn't affect campaign analytics.

  • Campaign content - total posts, stories, and reels tracked in your campaign for the selected period.

Awareness & Engagement:

  • Likes - total likes on tracked Instagram content for the selected period.

  • Engagement - the total of likes and comments on content in your campaign (hover over for a further breakdown).

  • Video views - reel and video plays tracked for your campaign for the selected period.

  • Est. impressions - an estimated number of times non-video content (static feed posts and Stories) appeared on screen. For posts, Modash estimates impressions by multiplying estimated reach by 1.5. For Stories, impressions equal estimated reach

  • Est. reach - an estimated number of unique people who saw non-video content. For posts, this is calculated from engagement data (likes and comments). For Stories, it's based on follower count. Est. reach does not include video content like Reels, TikTok, or YouTube.

  • Comments - Total comments on tracked posts in your campaign for the selected period.

  • Average ER% - calculated based only on measurable, trackable content. Stories, creators without posts, and content with hidden likes are excluded from this calculation - so the number reflects real engagement you can act on. Note that Discovery ER% and Campaign ER% use different formulas (Discovery uses median engagement across recent posts, while Campaign uses per-creator averages), so the same creator may show different ER% values in each context.

  • Average video ER% - engagement rate calculated using actual video views as the denominator instead of follower count. This gives you a true picture of how engaging your video content is based on the people who actually watched it.

  • Average impressions ER% - engagement rate based on estimated impressions for non-video content. Like Video ER%, this measures engagement against actual reach rather than follower count.

  • EMV - Earned media value - an estimated monetary value of the organic exposure your campaign generated. EMV is calculated using platform-specific and engagement-type-specific multipliers, and can be customised at the campaign level (affects only that campaign) or the workspace level (sets the default for all future campaigns).

Performance:

  • Clicks - clicks on your campaign tracking links for the selected period.

  • Conversions - total orders attributed to this campaign via discount codes or trackable links. (Shopify only).

  • Net Revenue - Total sales excluding shipping, taxes, returns, and refunds - used to calculate creator commissions.

  • Total sales - revenue generated through discount codes and tracking links (requires Shopify).

  • CPM - Cost per mille - how much you're paying per 1,000 impressions, based on your total creator cost.

  • Total Sales - total sales attributed to discount codes and tracking links.

  • Creator Cost - includes both manually entered rates (fixed fees and product costs) and affiliate commissions that Modash tracks automatically. This means CPM and ROAS reflect your true spend on each creator, including any commission payouts from your affiliate program.

  • ROAS - Return on ad spend - the revenue generated compared to what you spent on creators. Only shown when both sales and costs are tracked.

πŸ’‘ To see CPM and ROAS, make sure you've added creator rates to your campaign. If you're running an affiliate program through Modash, commissions are included in the cost automatically. Without any rates or commission data, Modash can only show engagement and revenue metrics.

  • New Customers - the number of first-time buyers attributed to the campaign through discount codes and tracking links. This tells you whether your campaign is bringing in genuinely new buyers, not just repeat customers

  • CAC (Customer Acquisition Cost) - your total creator cost (including commissions) divided by the number of new customers acquired. Instantly see what it costs to acquire a new buyer through each campaign.

  • AOV (Average Order Value) - total revenue divided by total orders, with a breakdown showing links vs codes attribution.

πŸ’‘ Understanding your total campaign exposure: To get a full picture of how many people your campaign reached, combine Views (video content) with Est. reach (posts and Stories). These metrics are separated because views are actual counts while reach is an estimate - keeping them apart means you always know which numbers are exact and which are estimated.

Content-level analytics

Click into the Published content tab to see analytics for every individual piece of content. Each post shows:

  • Views, likes, comments, and shares

  • Content type (post, Story, Reel, video)

  • Whether required hashtags, mentions, or ad disclosures are present

  • Alerts for missing tags or compliance issues

For Instagram collaborations, Modash displays all collaboration partners with clear visual indicators on each content card. Collaborative posts are attributed correctly across all participating creators, so you won't see duplicate posts cluttering your dashboard or double-counted stats inflating your numbers.

You can group content by creator, by date, or by alerts to quickly find what you need.

Creator-level performance

The Creators tab breaks down performance by individual creator. You'll see:

  • How many pieces of content each creator posted

  • Engagement metrics per creator

  • Discount code usage and revenue per creator (with Shopify connected)

  • Tracking link clicks per creator

  • Total cost and ROAS per creator

This is how you identify your top performers and decide which creators to work with again.

πŸ’‘ Pro tip: Add creator rates to your campaign to unlock CPM and ROAS calculations. Even for gifted campaigns, enter the product cost so you can measure true ROI. If you're running affiliates through Modash, commission payouts are already factored into your creator cost automatically!

Exporting campaign data

You can export your campaign analytics to CSV or Excel for reporting or sharing with stakeholders. Exports include all campaign performance data within your selected date range, plus gift order numbers and notes for a complete data trail between Modash and Shopify. Exports run in the background, so you can keep using Modash while your file is being prepared - no more waiting on download screens.

You can also download creator content directly from the Published content tab for repurposing across your own channels. Modash supports bulk downloads of up to 10 videos at once across Instagram Reels, TikTok videos, YouTube videos, and Shorts.

Full code and link visibility

When a creator has multiple discount codes or tracking links assigned, you'll see every single one listed in the cell. You can view, manage, and verify all creator assets at a glance without clicking into individual profiles.

FAQs

  • How quickly do analytics update after a creator posts?

Modash checks for new content regularly. Most content appears in your dashboard within 12 hours of posting. Metrics like views and engagement update every 12 hours.

  • Why don't I see CPM or ROAS in my dashboard?

CPM and ROAS require creator rates data. Open the Creators tab and add the rates for each creator (fixed fee, product cost, or both). Once rates are added, these metrics calculate automatically.

  • Can I compare performance across campaigns?

Each campaign has its own dashboard. To compare, export data from multiple campaigns and analyse them side by side.

  • What's the difference between views, est. reach, and est. impressions?

These metrics cover different types of content. Views count actual plays on video content only - Instagram Reels, TikTok videos, and YouTube videos. Est. reach is an estimated number of unique people who saw non-video content like static posts and Stories, calculated from engagement data and follower count. Est. impressions estimates the total number of times that non-video content appeared on screen (including repeat views). To get your full campaign exposure, add Views and Est. reach together.

  • What's the difference between views and engagements?

Views count how many times video content was played. Engagements include active interactions like likes, comments, shares, and saves across all content types. High views with low engagement may mean the content reached people but didn't resonate.

  • What's the difference between regular ER% and Video ER% or Impressions ER%?

Regular ER% divides engagements by follower count. Video ER% divides engagements by actual video views, and Impressions ER% divides engagements by estimated impressions. The reach-based metrics give you a more accurate picture of how content performs with the people who actually saw it, rather than measuring against total followers.

  • Can I share campaign reports with people outside Modash?

You can export campaign data to CSV or Excel and share those files.

  • Do I need Shopify connected to see campaign analytics?

No. Content tracking, views, engagements, and EMV all work without Shopify. Shopify is only needed for sales and revenue tracking through discount codes and tracking links.

  • Does creator cost include affiliate commissions?

Yes. If you're running an affiliate program through Modash, affiliate commissions are automatically included in your total creator cost. This means your CPM and ROAS calculations reflect both fixed fees you've entered and commissions paid to creators.

  • Why does est. reach look lower than views?

This is normal. Est. reach only covers non-video content (static posts and Stories) and is calculated from engagement data. If your campaign has mostly video content like Reels or TikTok videos, your views will naturally be much higher than est. reach. If Instagram hides like counts on a creator's posts, reach estimates will be significantly lower since they depend on like data.

  • How are Instagram collaboration posts handled in analytics?

Modash detects Instagram collaborations and displays all partners with visual indicators. The post is attributed correctly without duplicates or double-counted metrics, so your campaign numbers stay accurate.

  • Why does a Reel show fewer views in Modash than on Instagram?

Instagram shows combined Facebook + Instagram views to logged-in users. If a Reel was cross-posted to Facebook, the in-app view count will be higher than what Modash shows. Modash displays Instagram-only views, which is the correct count for that platform. To verify, view the Reel in an incognito browser window (not logged in) and you'll see the same number as Modash.

  • Why is a creator's ER% different in Discover vs my campaign?

Discovery and Campaign use different calculation methods. Discovery ER% uses the median engagement across recent posts divided by followers, which filters outliers. Campaign ER% uses per-creator averages across qualified content. Both are valid, they just measure slightly different things.

  • Why do Reels or TikTok videos show 0 for est. impressions and est. reach?

Est. impressions and est. reach only apply to non-video content (static feed posts and Stories). For video content like Reels, TikTok, and YouTube, use the Views metric instead. Combine Views (video) with Est. reach (non-video) to get your full campaign exposure.

  • Do campaign metrics keep updating forever?

Metrics update every ~12 hours while content is recent. For prolific creators who post frequently, older content may stop refreshing as Modash prioritises tracking newer posts. Key metrics captured during the active tracking window remain in your dashboard permanently.
